Questions

It's a serious question. I want to know. How am I suppose to tell you're saved?

You knelt down, and asked Christ to come in your heart. Let's just say I saw that happen. Do I know for sure that you're saved now?

You knelt down, and asked Christ to come in your heart, and you go to church every Sunday morning. Do I know for sure that you're saved now?

How am I suppose to know?

How are you suppose to know that I'm saved?

Maybe at the same time that I'm judging whether you're saved or not, you're deciding that I'm lost because I'm judging you.

Suppose I decide finally, that you're not saved, how do I convince you that you're lost?

Wow, some interesting thoughts. Jesus said judge a tree by its fruits. That's not quite the same as works, as revealed by His remarks to the false prophets (see Matt 7) 1 Peter 1 is germain too. Ultimately, it's between God and the individual (Rom 8:16), and anyone not walking in willful disobedience to God (i.e. he or she is uncorrectable/1 Cor 5) should be given the benefit of the doubt. The kingdom is a field of wheat and tares, and we don't necesarily have the artistry to separate one from the other. The final arbiter is God on judgment day.

If they were saved, no harm done. But if they weren't saved, then by judgment day it's already too late.

Thank you for your thoughts - especially the scriptures - they gave me more food for thought.

You can show them by your actions. As they say "Actions speak louder than words." If your actions towards them are the love that God pours into you then they will feel it and either be convicted of sins still in their lives or not. That is really up to them at that point. The love of God is perfect. People will flock to that kind of love. All you have to do is be willing to share it. Only God knows their heart. But God can reveal things to us and then we will know.

True, but as long as you're sure they've had the truth presented to them, it's what we have to live with.

slw: good point. I appreciate that reminder. I'd forgotten the basic fact of it being God that saves people - not me.

Glenda: I mentioned it before recently in a post about how difficult it is for me to love those that claim to be Christian and yet continue in their sins. So while your idea is good, it is one I continually struggle to accomplish.

How do you know that YOU are saved?

Paul says it's the witness of Holy Spirit, 2 Corinthians 1:21-22

And it is God who establishes us with you in Christ, and has anointed us, and who has also put his seal on us and given us his Spirit in our hearts as a guarantee.

No matter how foul my demeanour or my behaviour at times, it's the witness of the Spirit who reassures me when I start to question what's going on. I'm sure you'd agree? He speaks to me. He reassures me. Even on those occasions that my fruit is "off".

And so I believe it is with others. It's not ours to judge. But the Spirit will bear witness to us so that we know who we're dealing with and what they need.
