Dream big

I keep reading about asking God and dreaming big, bigger than your regular sized dreams.
I found it ironic that I have a dream I assume to be wildly too big and out of reach so, I think God needs to give me a more reachable bigger than imaginable dream.

It's amazing how we rationalize things in our heads sometimes.

Do you have a larger than life dream?

I don't buy into the dreaming mantra-- Jesus didn't teach it, nor the Apostles. God is able to do exceedingly beyond what we think or ask, but that doesn't exactly translate into the dream thing. Imho, it's about inciting the flesh and raising moula. With so much dreaming going on in the church, I wonder what might be coming to wake us from our sleep. Really, is there any more than a famous few for whom the dream thing "works"? The rest frustrate themselves stretching for the imagery high only to wake, late, with morning breath.

SLW THANK YOU for your comment - I've got a question I hope you're willing to discuss - what you said implies that you don't think the dreams people are reaching for *except for the famous few* came from God.
(I say that, because I assume that you would be for people attempting to accomplish God-given goals.)

Is that true?
Does your statement mean you don't think it wise to ask for a "dream" to stretch for?

What do we need to dream for, we have Christ. Paul said, "I consider everything a loss compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them rubbish, that I may gain Christ and be found in him..." Christ may ask any of us to do a thing, but that thing can never be allowed to cloud our vision of, nor satisfaction with Christ. If we look for something to stretch for, stretch for this: "I want to know Christ and the power of his resurrection and the fellowship of sharing in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, and so, somehow, to attain to the resurrection from the dead." It truly is all about knowing him, I've got to wonder if some of the dreamers are substituting the dream for Jesus. Let Jesus be the dream. [scripture from Philippians 3]

Beside, what's the difference between the dream chasing being taught in the church today and that which inspires the robber barons, the moguls of Wall Street, the politician and empire builders in the world. IOW, it seems more a natural human disposition than anything from the Spirit of God.

oh i thought you meant a dream dream. i had a dream, a couple of years ago, of a circle of people in a field of green grass, and a sunny day, all joined hand in hand.

it was a very pleasant dream. i do not know, but i like to think of it as a group of believers all worshiping God together.

If you don't stretch though - how will you be able to reach farther?

Stretch for Christ, stretch toward Christ. Everything worth having, achieving, and experiencing in Christ is a gift, so it's the giver that counts.

isn't a vision from God like a dream?
